Mel Gibson's "The Passion Of The Christ" is an exploitive, anti-christian snuff film, in MHO. That the media is bending over backwards to make sure EVERYONE knows how "controversial" and "exciting" and "artistic" and other crapola is proof. Not a day goes by without endless scenes of the movie being displayed over and over again on any form of "news" or "entertainment" show.

And what is the movie all about? Look here for a review:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...gle.com&rnum=1

(hope that works) Basically it's about torture. It's a snuff film, pure and simple. I HATE Hollywood! Why? Because they have an adgenda, anti-religion, and aren't ashamed to flog thier dead horse in each and every movie that comes out of California. They hate all religions equally it seems, and never relent in their slander and disinformation campaign. I don't know which is more horrific, The Last Temptation Of Christ or this pornographic trash.

Feel free to comment! But try to keep on the topics of religion, hollywood and this movie.

um, I have not seen Passion yet and I will this weekend. I have seen the Last Temptation of Christ and found it to be interesting. It showed an alternate situation if Jesus did take up an offer to not die for sins. He ends up getting married, and have a nice domestic life as a carpenter. Then it showed someone liek Paul preaching and Jesus comes up to him and tells him he's lying that he is Jesus and that he didn't die on the cross. Paul replied, "My Jesus did." It is very interesting to me.

And if it gorish to watch Jesus getting beat by Roman soldiers, I say too bad, because that what the Bible said it happened. I wouldn't take any children to it though.

Well I haven't seen it just yet(was going to try to go tomarrow.) but IMO what append to him was fucking brutal no two ways about it. I REALLY HATE how people sugar it up all the time. all thats ever said(most of the time) is "he was nailed to the cross, and died for our sins" and yeah thats gotta hurt ALOT but I think back in the day, yeah they most likley torcherd the hell out of him. but thats just my thoughts at the moment. After i see this movie I'll be able to give a yea or nay.

Last Temptation was a way to re-read Jesus's humanity.

I haven't seen the movie we're arguing about.
But every Jewish friend told me it is real crap from their religious point of view.

As an ex-Catholic I think that stressing the gruesome aspects of something is a medieval way to approach Christ's sacrifice. But we know mr Gibson: as an integralist he couldn't do anything better.
Just thinking about his personal idea about women, about homosexuality, and about anything human, well, I ask myself what else he could do with this mental structure.

And after all: it's all a great business.

It is a great business! lol
Yes people sometimes overlook the extent of suffering in the "suffered, died and was buried" the Catholics (at least) talk about often. Yet I believe the important part, what sets Jesus above the assorted saints & prophets both before and after, is the "on the third day he rose again" part.
There's a whole phonebook full of saints and martyrs (sp?) who suffered as much or even more than Christ. None of them rose from the dead though.
The "Passion" refered to is a reference to "Passion Play" which is a recounting of the suffering and crucifiction of Jesus, often involving a person being physically nailed to a real cross. On stage! There are also "Mystery Plays" and "Miracle Plays" which deal with the events in the bible.
I've never like Passion Plays, finding them degrading to the viewers, an appeal to a base lust to see and/or experience suffering. I think Gibson does his audience a disservice by making an entire movie which feeds this lust.
The message of Jesus is that we don't have to suffer like that, that faith in God (His Father) will bring salvation. Yes suffering and death were part of Jesus's experience in being human, but so were lots of things, like eating, pooping and farting, no one makes movies about that... except Mel Brooks perhaps.

I plan on seeing the movie soon. As soon as I do, I'll give my 2 cents.

Just heard a movie review on CBC radio which gave a very similar opinion.
First half of movie: action packed "based on true story" type movie
Second half: gorey pornography with no redeeming value
The reviewer thought it "resembled" the gospel accounts, but all in all is offensive to Christianity.

OK, I'm curious... how is it anti-Christian? I've heard that it can be perceived as anti-Jewish if you're so inclined, but I don't see where you're getting anti-Christian from.

Cool

Well Ski, thanks for your review
Really, you make a very valid point about the "anti-semitism" thing. One reviewer said 'you may as well blame the Italians' meaning it's silly to get all worked up over events from 2000 years ago (in reference to laying blame, not the acts of Jesus).
It's also good that it got you thinking about Christianity. That's what's supposed to happen when one views Miracle Plays, Morality Plays or even Passion Plays. Ideally.
And yes one can see more torture and violence watching the evening news, it's just that I think it's excessive, distracting, desensitising and not the main point Jesus was trying to make. I'm glad you got the message of the gosples (I think) anyhow.

Well I just got back from watching this movie, and I gotta be honest here.....I liked it. it was a good solid movie. I didn't see how it was quote unquote ani-sematic (sp?) the message I got from this movie was "look what I had to endure for ALL of you, I do this so YOU don't have to because I love you ALL." was it a snuff film? NO. I've seen slasher movies that were worse and thats not counting the hour and a half movie i had to watch in basic that showed what bio agents do to a human. and on to the link cats put up by a mr.Martin Cannon , he says
"Jesus becomes the central figure in a work
of blood-soaked homosexual pornography" AND "Jesus receives the spear in the side, resulting
in a (Biblically justifiable) gusher of blood and liquid, a Roman
soldier gets sprayed in the face. Anyone one who has ever watched an
adult video will recognize this moment as the film's cum shot".
OK, if this is what THAT guy saw then
A. we didn't see the same movie or
B. He need SERIOUS frickin psycalogical help.
Also I have seen alot of people trying to lay blame on WHO killed him, look they all did. the romans and the jews. the jews asked for it and the romans gave it. Is that gonna make me hate a jewish person? NO. sorry. it don't work that way. So,All in all it's a good film that had me thinking about what really may have happend.
